Previous Winners of the Golden Glove
Originally, the Golden Glove could only be won by a single goalkeeper. If two keepers were tied for the number of clean sheets, then the award would be handed to the player with the superior clean sheets-to-games ratio, however, this was altered at the beginning of the 2014 campaign with the EPL allowing two goalkeepers to share this honour.
The Golden Glove was first awarded in 2005 with Chelsea’s Petr Cech managing to keep 24 clean sheets in a single season. This remains the current record and is yet to be beaten. Cech went on to collect the Golden Glove on three more occasions (2009-10, 2013-14 and 2015-16). Joe Hart has also been successful four times. The former England international-turned TV pundit, collected the award for three consecutive seasons (2010-11, 2011-12, 2012-13) and then again in 2014-15.

David Raya is a Spanish keeper who is number one choice for Arsenal. The 29-year old has recently signed a new contract with the club and collected the Golden Glove award last season having kept 16 clean sheets during the Gunners’ unsuccessful title bid. He is renowned for his shot-shopping abilities and his accurate distribution. Although he hails from Barcelona, his senior career has been spent in the UK with spells at Blackburn, Southport (loan) and Brentford before arriving in North London.
During his youth career in Spain, he combined his goalkeeping duties with playing in midfield at Futsal.
Who are the Other Contenders?
According to BEO, Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels has a decent chance of usurping David Raya to this season’s Golden Glove. The Tricky Trees are enjoying a tremendous season in the top flight with the Belgian stopper having kept 12 clean sheets in his first 28 appearances. He has been particularly watertight at home with Forest conceding just ten goals at the City Ground so far.
Liverpool are likely to secure the Premier League title this season, although Arne Slot’s side have been forced to rotate goalkeepers at various points of the campaign. Allison’s injury means that he has played just 21 games so far, although his total of nine clean sheets gives him a chance of securing his fourth Golden Glove.
Everton’s Jordan Pickford also sits on nine clean sheets for the season despite the Toffees having briefly flirted with relegation. Following the departure of defensively-minded manager Sean Dyche, the Merseysiders may struggle to keep as many shutouts. Dean Henderson is another young British goalkeeper with a bright future in the game and. he has proven himself as a Premier League-standard stopper this season with Crystal Palace. He’s picked up nine clean sheets from his first 28 games.
