Zverev is a former junior number one and was victorious in the Juniors Australian Open. He won two ATP Titles as a teenager and made his breakthrough when beating Roger Federer, who was World Number 3 at the time.
Playing Style
Despite possessing a far superior record at the French Open, Zverev is an all-court player and is capable of performing across all surfaces. He is an aggressive baseliner and has a strong backhand. He isn’t particularly quick, however, his long reach often makes up for this deficiency. His service game is one of his strongest suits although he is weaker when it comes to volley and overhead technique.
Career So Far
Zverev began competing on the Pro Tour following his success in the Boy’s Singles Title at the Australian Open. He became the youngest player to win Challenger Title since Bernard Tomic in 2009 and subsequently reached the semi-finals of the International German Open.
Throughout the 2016 campaign, he caused a number of upsets including beating Marin Cilic, who was ranked World Number 13 at the time. He beat Roger Federer, his tennis idol, at the Halle Open on the grass courts and entered the top 30 for the first time in his career.
His first ATP Title was secured in St. Petersburg at the end of the year, beating the in-form Stan Wawrinka in the final. He also became the first teenager to record three consecutive victories over top ten players since 1986.
Zverev finished 2017 inside the top four and reached his first Grand Slam quarter final at Roland Garros. He reached the same stage of the tournament twelve months later.
He also represented his country in the ATP Cup and managed to reach the semi-finals at the beginning of 2021. He’s also competed regularly in the Davis Cup, Hopman Cup and the United Cup.
Achievements
Alexander Zverev has a 78% win record at the French Open, enjoying a 34-9 W/L ratio in Paris. He reached the semi-finals on three consecutive occasions (2021, 22, 23) and was defeated in the 2024 final to Carlos Alcaraz.
The German has also reached the final of the US Open (2020), although he’s exited at the QF stage in each of the last two seasons. He is a two-time semi-finalist at the Australian Open and always tends to start the season strongly. He was defeated in the final at the beginning of 2025, continuing his run of agonising defeats in showpiece events.
Despite his Grand Slam misery, he has been victorious twice at the ATP Finals, last securing success in 2021 in Italy.
He also beat Karen Khachanov to pick up an Olympic Gold Medal in Tokyo. Subsequently, he was voted German Sports Personality of the Year 2021.
Furthermore, he is just one of a small pool of players who possess a superior head-to-head record over Roger Federer.

Will Zverev Clinch a Grand Slam Title in 2025?
Although he reached the final of the Australian Open, Zverev hasn’t enjoyed a particularly productive 2025 so far. His Grand Slam final defeats are likely to effect his mentality, especially in the big moments, although his best opportunity may arrive at his beloved French Open in May.
He has typically struggled at Wimbledon, which doesn’t suit his baseline game, although his US Open record is slightly superior. If he fails to secure a title in 2025, he may be susceptible to younger players, who have less baggage and more energy than the 27-year-old. Some analysts have speculated about the fact that he may be mentally scarred by previous defeats and this could be playing on his mind throughout 2025.
If you believe that Alexander Zverev will win a Grand Slam title before retirement, you could win €165 by betting €100 if it happens.
