Previous Winners

Mikey Lewis of Hull KR was crowned the 2024 Man of Steel award having helped guide his side to their maiden Grand Final in mid-October. The half-back was handed the prestigious honour at last year’s ceremony which took place at Leeds’ Royal Armouries. He finished the regular season with 19 tries, in addition to kicking 70 goals for a total of 216 points. Despite finishing third behind Wigan Warriors’ Liam Marshall and Warrington Wolves’ Matty Ashton, his pivotal role in Hull KR’s successful season earned him the prize.

Bevan French was the 2023 winner becoming the first Wigan Warriors player to receive this accolade since 2012. The Australian played a vital role in helping guide his side to the 2023 Grand Final and earning his team the League Leaders’ Shield.

2022 saw Brodie Croft pick up the gong following a standout debut season in Super League. Previous winners include Catalan Dragons’ Sam Tomkins and Castleford Tigers’ Paul McShane.

Who is Bevan French?

Bevan French, the 2023 winner, is listed as the favourite to pick up his second award according to the BEO betting odds. The Wigan Warriors star didn’t make the cut last season despite guiding his side to success in the Grand Final. He notched a superb solo try to get his side over the line, with many Super League fans claiming that he was cruelly overlooked for last year’s accolade.

The versatile operator, who can play as fullback, wing or stand-off, was part of the record-breaking team who became the first outfit to win the World Club Challenge,  Challenge Cup, League Leaders’ Shield and Super League Grand Final.

His heroics have sparked some discussion about whether a return to NRL could be in the offing, however, he looks set to stay with the Wigan Warriors for the duration of the 2025 season.

Other Contenders

Hull KR’s Mikey Lewis is amongst the favourites once again and although his team may not be expected to reach successive Grand Finals, he caught the eye last year and is expected to be amongst the contenders once again.

Tristan Sailor is a new name to Super League fans having swapped the Brisbane Broncos for St. Helens. The Australian full-back was signed on a two-year deal is a vesrsatile operator, who will bring plenty of pace and excitement to the Totally Wicked Stadium.

George Williams is another potential contender. He currently plays scrum-half and stand-off for the Warrington Wolves. The 30-year old, who also spent time in the NRL, admitted that being named England captain is the pinnacle of his career with many pundits also suggesting that he was cruelly overlooked for last season’s award.

Jack Welsby endured a frustrating 2024 campaign with injuries preventing him from matching his 2023 achievements. He made the shortlist two years ago, and the St. Helens’ mans playmaking abilities are likely to be recognised once again in 2025.

If you believe that Mikey Lewis will be awarded the 2025 Rugby League Man of Steel, you could win €600 by betting €100 at Betfred if it happens.
