Will Antoine Dupont be the Six Nations Player of the Tournament 2025?

The Six Nations is an annual international Rugby Union tournament which is held between England, Ireland, Wales, France, Italy and Scotland. The competition has been taking place for 142 years and was previously known as the Home Nations Championship before morphing into the Five Nations Championship in 1910.

The tournament gets underway at the start of February and concludes in mid-March with each team facing each other once. Nations will also take turns to host each other. A bonus point system was introduced in 2017 which now rewards teams who managed to score 4+ tries in a match and those who avoid defeat by fewer than seven points.

England and Wales are the most successful nations in the Six Nations with 39 titles each.

The BEO betting odds show that there is a 34.78% chance that France’s Antoine DuPoint will be voted Player of the Tournament  ::: Discover the current Odds now HERE

What Happened in the First Set of Fixtures?

Six Nations holders Ireland got off to the perfect start with a comeback win against England on the opening weekend. Ireland found themselves trailing 10-5 at the break to Steve Borthwick’s men, however, they found their rhythm after the break and gave themselves a realistic chance of becoming the first team to clinch three successive Six Nations titles. Interim coach Simon Easterby admitted that his side weren’t at their best, but they will fancy their chances heading to Murrayfield next weekend.

Scotland eased past Italy in their opening contest despite the loss of captain Sione Tuipulotu to injury. Huw Jones’ heroics helped the Scots to get off to a winning start and they into a tough clash with Ireland full of confidence.

The story of the first round was France’s unceremonious thrasing of Wales. Les Bleus won 43-0 with Antoine Dupont producing several moments of magic as he eased his way through the Welsh backline. It’s the first time in over a quarter of a century that Wales failed to score a single point in a Six Nations contest.

Who is Antoine Dupont?

Antoine Dupont opted to swerve the 2024 Six Nations in favour of the Paris Olympics, however, he has made an instant impact at this year’s tournament and the Toulouse scrum-half is understandably favourite to win the Player of the Tournament award. Despite France’s effortless victory at the weekend, Dupont has played down any talk of a Six Nations success for his nation. He created three tries in 22 minutes and will be fresh and raring to go next weekend having played just 58 minutes at the Stade de France.

Dupont is no stranger to awards having become the first French player to win the Men’s Sevens World Rugby Player of the Year award and he’s also won the Six Nations Player of the Tournament award three times already. He’s also won nine major competitions throughout his career including the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

Who else is in the Running?

Racing 92 fly-half Finn Russell is another contender for the Player of the Tournament, although he admitted he was a little frustrated with his own performance in Scotland’s Six Nations opener. He is the team’s chief playmaker and will likely be involved in his side’s next fixtures. He will be working hard to put this weekend’s sub-par performance firmly behind him.

Despite missing the first game against Wales, Damien Penaud is likely to have a significant impact on Les Bleues upon his return. He’s been in sensational form for his club and scored a tournament record six tries for the Bordeaux-Begles in the Champions Cup back in January.

Louie Bielle-Biarry missed that contest with injury, yet the Frenchman made a fantastic start to his Six Nations campaign with two tries against an out-of-sorts Wales outfit.

Ireland’s Caelan Doris also has a chance of securing the accolade according to the BEO betting odds. The 26-year old was pivotal in Ireland’s second-half dismantling of England at the weekend and the County Mayo-born star is already captaining the side having produced some outstanding performances for Leinster. If Ireland can rack up a third successive Six Nations title, Doris is likely to be in contention for this award.

If you believe that Damien Penaud will be awarded the 2025 Six Nations Player of the Tournament, you could win €1000 by betting €100 at Paddy Power if it happens.
