Who Received a Worst Director Nomination?
Many acclaimed filmmakers have received a Worst Director nomination at the 45th Golden Raspberry Awards, which is likely a blow to their confidence.
The following directors have received a nomination:

- Jerry Seinfeld – Unfrosted
- Eli Roth – Borderlands
- Francis Ford Coppola – Megalopolis
- J. Clarkson – Madame Web
Who is Most Likely to Win the Razzie for Worst Director?
Many of the above films struggled at the box office and were a huge disappointment for fans worldwide. However, some directors are more likely to pick up the award than others for their lack of directorial vision or inability to execute it well.
Francis Ford Coppola – Megalopolis
Many movie fans might struggle to believe Francis Ford Coppola has received a Worst Director nomination. Let alone that he is the bookmakers’ favorite to win the award.
He is arguably one of the greatest directors in movie history, as he has directed some of the most revered films to date, such as The Godfather (1972), The Godfather Part II (1974), The Conversation (1974) and The Rainmaker (1997), to name a few.
As a result, he has won six Golden Globes, five Academy Awards, and two Palmes d’Or, to name a few accolades.
Unfortunately, his work on Megalopolis (2024) could help him land a brand-new award he has never won before: Worst Director.
The flick was a major flop at the box office, earning $13.9 million worldwide, meaning it didn’t recoup its budget of $136 million.
It received many negative reviews, which likely contributed to its poor ticket sales, with some top critics stating it was “one of the worst films I have ever seen” and saying it is a contender for “the most pretentious film ever.”
Todd Phillips – Joker: Folie à Deux
There were high hopes for Joker: Folie à Deux after the success of its predecessor Joker (2019), as the latter enjoyed much critical and commercial success.
Unfortunately, it became one of the biggest box office flops of 2024, grossing $207.5 million internationally, meaning there was a small profit after the film recovered its $200 million budget.
The film’s change of story and direction didn’t sit well with audiences and critics, resulting in poor reviews and ticket sales.
For this reason, most people wouldn’t be shocked if Todd Phillips was awarded Worst Director at the 45th Golden Raspberry Awards.
It does appear a strong contender, as the film has earned eight Razzie nominations this year, including Worst Actor (Joaquin Phoenix), Worst Actress (Lady Gaga), and Worst Picture.
Jerry Seinfeld – Unfrosted
Jerry Seinfeld has enjoyed an enviable stand-up and acting career. In addition to starring in the hit sitcom Seinfeld, the 70-year-old entertainer was voted the 7th greatest stand-up of all time by Rolling Stone in 2017.
However, he has seemingly proven he is better in front of the screen than behind it, as his Netflix flick Unfrosted received poor reviews from movie critics. For instance, the Sun-Times labeled it “one of the decade’s worst movies.”
Also, the flick earned a score of 40% on Rotten Tomatoes, a review aggregator site, and has an average rating of 5.1/10.
