The Golden Raspberry Awards is held annually before the Academy Awards to showcase the worst films and performances of the past 12 months.
The iconic awards, which were first presented in 1981, were created to keep Hollywood humble, ensuring disappointing films, acting, or screenplays never slip under the radar.
One of the most unforgiving award categories is Worst Remake, Rip-off, or Sequel, meaning films inspired by other works aren’t safe at the award ceremony.

What Films Have Received a Nomination?
Five films are in contention for the Razzie for the Worst Remake, Rip-Off, or Sequel, with the category highlighting movies adapted from original or previous material.
Here are the 2025 nominees for Worst Remake, Rip-off, or Sequel:
- Mufasa: The Lion King
- Kraven the Hunter
- Joker: Folie à Deux
- Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver
- The Crow
What Movie is Most Likely to Win the Razzie?
According to recent betting odds, Joker: Folie à Deux is the clear favorite to win the Razzie for Worst Remake, Rip-off, or Sequel at the 45th Golden Raspberry Awards.
Expectations were high for the movie following the overwhelming success of Joker (2019), as it received much critical acclaim, enjoyed box office success, and secured 11 Academy Award nominations.
However, the 2024 flick proved that some films shouldn’t have a sequel, as Joker: Folie à Deux was panned by top movie critics and was a box office flop, grossing $207.5 million internationally on a $200 million budget.
The flick’s negative and mixed reviews resulted in it securing a rating of 31% out of 362 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.
As the film has had a huge fall from grace with movie lovers and industry-respected critics, it might seem inevitable that it will win the Razzie for Worst Remake, Rip-off, or Sequel this year.
Of course, The Crow is a strong contender for the gong, as it provided a disappointing reboot of the much-loved series from the 1990s.
The film, which is based on James O’Barr’s comic book series, bombed at the box office, grossing $24 million on a $50 million budget.
Sadly for the film, it received a score of 22% out of 134 critic reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, and its negative feedback will only increase its likelihood of taking home the Golden Raspberry Award for the Worst Remake, Rip-off, or Sequel.
However, Kraven the Hunter stands a good chance at receiving the Razzie award, as it didn’t fare much better than the above movies at the international box office, grossing $60 million on a $130 million budget.
Also, many movie critics criticized the revival’s screenplay, visual effects, and editing, which likely hurt its commercial performance.
Kraven the Hunter could be saved by the widescale criticism of Joker: Folie à Deux and The Crow, making them firm frontrunners for the gong at this year’s Golden Raspberry Awards. However, all the above films aren’t safe in the category.
The winner of the Worst Remake, Rip-off, or Sequel will be announced at the Golden Raspberry Awards on March 1, 2025. Like always, it is scheduled to take place one day before the Academy Awards 2025.
If you believe Rebel Moon: Part Two: The Scargiver will win Worst Remake, Rip-off, or Sequel at the Golden Raspberry Awards 2025, you could win $1000 by betting $100 at 1xBet if it happens.
