Will Wicked: For Good Make $1 Billion at the Box Office?
Wicked has again proven there is a place for Broadway musicals on the big screen, as it follows a long line of successful adaptations, such as Grease (1978), Hairspray (2002), Mamma Mia! (2008), and Les Miserables (2012).
Part One grossed an incredible $698 million, making it the highest-grossing musical film adaptation in history.
With its fanbase growing all the time, many people might not hesitate to buy tickets for Part Two on November 26, 2025.

Wicked: For Good is Predicted to Miss a Billion Dollars
Wicked has become a phenomenon since its release in November 2024, with many people falling in love with its gripping story, complicated characters, superb soundtrack, fantastical setting, and serious themes.
As the film has many stories to tie up, which theater lovers might well remember, fans will likely run to movie theaters to watch Wicked: For Good at the end of 2025.
However, it is expected part two will fall short of $1 billion when it’s released on November 26, 2025.
For instance, Screen Rant recently predicted that Wicked: For Good will make $840 million at the box office, which is still a pretty healthy profit on the film’s $150 million budget.
Sequels Tend to Perform Better
Most movie experts would tell you that sequels typically perform better than their predecessors.
The most recent example is Inside Out 2 (2024), as it grossed more than $1 billion internationally, while Inside Out (2015) made $850 million.
Also, the success of Incredibles 2 could give Universal Pictures hope for Wicked: For Good striking $1 billion, as the animation earned $1.2 billion worldwide after the first installment made over $600 million.
If Wicked wins an Academy Award or two, more people will likely watch the digital release, meaning part two will perform much better at the box office.
A Box Office Battle
Wicked didn’t shy away from a box office battle in November 2024, as it shared its opening weekend with Gladiator II, and Moana 2 opened a week later to much success.
The above movies likely stole valuable ticket sales away from the Broadway musical adaptation, despite it earning close to $700 million at the box office.
However, Universal Pictures is clearly afraid of other movies close to Wicked: For Good’s opening weekend, as it pushed up its release date from November 21 to avoid clashing with Zootopia 2.
As Zootopia made over $1 billion at the box office in 2016, it’s expected to attract many film fans of all ages to movie theaters this November.
For this reason, Universal Pictures is likely to throw its marketing power behind Wicked: For Good to secure more ticket sales than the Disney flick from its opening weekend onwards, which might be no easy feat.
However, it’s not only Zootopia 2 that could steal tickets away from Wicked: For Good, as the flicks will need to compete with Avatar: Fire & Ash, which will arrive on the silver screen on December 19, 2025.
As the first two films generated $2 billion each, Wicked: For Good might struggle to compete with the Avatar franchise’s popularity at the box office, especially as Avatar: Fire & Ash is expected to yield a similar revenue.
On the plus side, movie lovers will have plenty of fantastic movies to look forward to at the end of the year.
