Who is Trent Alexander-Arnold?

Trent Alexander-Arnold is Liverpool’s first-choice right-back, however, he has also deputised in midfield over the last couple of seasons. The Merseyside-born player is considered one of the best right-backs in world football and is famed for his range of crossing and his ability from set-piece situations.

He made his senior debut at the age of 18 having progressed through the club’s youth academy and captaining the teams at various levels. He became the youngest ever player to start back-to-back Champions League finals and helped to guide his boyhood club to success in the competition.

At the end of the 2019 season, he was named in the PFA Team of the Season alongside several of his teammates.

He has made over 230 appearances for the Reds and has found the net on 19 occasions. He has also been a regular contributor to the national team, featuring regularly under Gareth Southgate. He played a significant role in helping the Three Lions reach the final of Euro 2024.

Why is he Considering Leaving Liverpool?

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contract expires at the end of June 2025 with the defender free to leave Merseyside. He has been strongly linked to Real Madrid where he would join forces with his close friend Jude Bellingham. Opportunities to join European heavyweights aren’t likely to come around too often and he may struggle to resist the lure of Los Blancos.

Real Madrid are rumoured to be interested in the Liverpudlian as they are looking for a long-term replacement for Dani Carvajal. The 32-year-old remains a key cog in the Real Madrid defence, yet he has suffered from injuries this season and appears to be slowing down.

Although it would be difficult to leave his boyhood club, TAA is unlikely to turn down a chance to play in the Spanish capital.

Are there any Other Suitors?

Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund have also been linked with the classy right-back. Barcelona’s budget may be restricted whereas his sights may be set a little higher than Champions League regulars Dortmund.

Could he Stay at Liverpool?

Numerous former Liverpool players have tipped Alexander-Arnold to remain at Liverpool, however, he is free to talk to other clubs from January onwards. There have been some suggestions that if the Reds were to secure the Premier League title this season, TAA would be tempted to stay at the club. He’s clearly enjoying working under Arne Slot and has featured regularly since the Dutchman replaced Jurgen Klopp.

With Mo Salah and Virgil Van Dijk also out of contract this summer, it is set to be an important couple of months for the Reds. They will be hoping that Trent Alexander-Arnold will opt to remain a Liverpool player for the foreseeable future.
