Who is Most Likely to Win Top Rap Artist?
Drake and Kendrick Lamar are the acts most likely to accept the Top Rap Artist Award this year.
Their highly publicized feud hasn’t only helped the rappers secure various headlines, but their diss tracks have become some of their biggest songs to date.
The beef has led to a lyrical face-off between the pair, with Lamar throwing the first stone when featuring on Future and Metro Boomin’s album We Don’t Trust You in March 2024.
As a result, Drake dropped the diss tracks “Push Ups” and “Taylor Made Freestyle” in April 2024, causing Lamar to hit back with the six-minute song “Euphoria” and “6.16 in LA.”
With the feud still on his mind, Drake dropped “Family Matters,” inspiring Kendrick to return fire with “Meet the Grahams” and “Not Like Us.”
Eager to have the last word, Drake attempted to bunk allegations against him in “The Heart Pt. 6,” with the unfiltered lyrics dividing fans.
Since then, the lyrical face-off appears to have gone quiet, but praise for their tracks has rolled in, and the songs have climbed high in the charts.
At present, Drake is the likely artist to win Top Rap Artist at the Billboard Music Awards, which may infuriate his musical nemesis.
He is currently the top-selling artist of 2024 based on album units, which will likely give him the edge in the category.
However, Kendrick Lamar could scoop the award out of Drake’s hands, as his beef with Drake boosted his back catalog streams by 49%.
Also, “Not Like Us” reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in May 2024, while other diss tracks entered the top ten.
Travis Scott is a worthy contender for the accolade, as he made chart history in 2024, as his Days Before Rodeo mixtape jumped from number 106 to the top spot in the Billboard 200 one month after its release on various streaming platforms.
The feud between Kendrick Lamar and Drake could even help Metro Boomin or Future accept the award for Top Rap Artist, as the rappers appeared on “Like That” with Kendrick Lamar.
The song had success in the charts, generating 59.6 million streams and 9,000 digital downloads.
Also, Metro Boomin and Future’s collaborative album We Still Don’t Trust You debuted at number one on the Billboard 200.
