Who will Triumph in the 2025 Ryder Cup?

Who will Triumph in the 2025 Ryder Cup?

The countdown to the 2025 Ryder Cup is officially underway!

The Ryder Cup is one of the most anticipated events on the sporting calendar, and the continued rivalry between Europe and the United States rarely fails to deliver when it comes to drama and unpredictability.

Originally contested between Great Britain and the US, this historic competition occurs every two years and alternates between European and US courses.

How does it Work?

The Ryder Cup is a matchplay format which takes place over three days. The event consists of 28 matches, each of which is worth a single point. Unlike standard PGA and European Tour events, there are no additional holes played at the Ryder Cup. If the match is tied after 18 holes, each side will receive half a point.

The first two days consist of four foursome matches and four fourball matches. The final day features twelve single matches which always provides plenty of excitement. The first team to reach 14.5 points will be crowned the overall winner of the Ryder Cup.

In Europe, the team will be made up of six players who have qualified for the team automatically (by accumulating points throughout the season) alongside six Captain’s picks.

Team US will be made up of six players who have accumulated the most points throughout the season alongside six Captain’s picks.

Previous Winners of the Ryder Cup

Prior to 1979, the Ryder Cup was competed between the USA and Great Britain. For the last 45 years, it has seen Team Europe go head-to-head with the United States.

Overall, Team USA are leading the way with 27 wins from their 44 appearances. Team Europe and Team Great Britain have a combined total of 15 victories.

One of Europe’s victories came in 2023 with Englishman Luke Donald captaining his team to victory at the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club in Rome. Europe will head into 2025 as the outsiders, yet they have been successful in five of the last seven Ryder Cup meetings.

The United States have won each of the last two meetings which have been held in America. Their last victory came in 2021 (delayed due to the COVID) at Whistling Straits in Haven, Wisconsin.

1989 was the last time that the Ryder Cup finished all-square. The contest was tied 14-14 at the The Belfry in Wishaw, Warwickshire.

Can Team Europe go back-to-back?

Team USA have enjoyed plenty of success with home advantage in recent years and with the 2025 Ryder Cup being held at the Bethpage Black course in Farmingdale, New York, the betting market is confident that the USA’s dominance on home soil can continue. They will be backed by a vociferous home support who will undoubtedly give them a significant advantage. Having some jurisdiction over the course setup will also give them a helping hand.

Although the list will not be finalised until midway through 2025, it appears highly likely that Xander Schauffele, Scottie Scheffler and Bryson DeChambeau will automatically qualify for the team.

Team Europe went into the 2023 Ryder Cup as underdogs, however, the performances of Viktor Hovland, Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood helped to defy the odds. Luke Donald is a popular captain and their chances should not be underestimated.

If you believe that Europe will retain the Ryder Cup, you could win €246 by betting €100 at 1xBet if it happens.
