Who will the Number 1 Overall Pick in the 2025 NFL Draft?
During the offseason, the NFL Draft is one of the major talking points for US football fans. Having freed up some space on their rosters, each of the 32 teams will be allowed to select new players from College Football. It is one of the most important moments in the NFL calendar, and it is likely to significantly impact a team’s performance throughout both the regular season and the play-offs. The 2025 NFL Draft is set to take place in Green Bay.
1XBet’s Odds of 3 are predicting a 33% chance that Shedeur Sanders will be the Number 1 Overall Draft Pick in 2025 ::: Discover the current Odds now HERE
How Does it Work?
The Draft order is determined by the overall standings from the previous NFL season. The poorest performing teams will be permitted first pick with the Super Bowl winners receiving the final pick of the first round. Players who have been out of high school for three years will be eligible to be picked up by any of the 32 NFL sides. The large majority of pickups will have been playing in College Football in the US, however, occasionally, Canadian Universities and the Canadian Football League (CFL) will also produce a few homegrown players. Defensive Tackle Eric Swann is the most high-profile example of a drafted player in the modern era who never started a game in College Football.
In total, there are seven rounds with each team getting one selection per round. This is subject to change with NFL teams able to trade their positions in exchange for cash, players or a different position in the Draft.
The NFL Draft is televised each year and covered by ESPN, ABC and the NFL Network.
NFL Combine Week, which tends to take place in late February/early March, gives potential future stars an opportunity to impress scouts and coaches from each of the 32 NFL franchises. They are put through their paces with a series of drills, tests and interviews. Once this has been completed, each team will begin finalising their selections as well as working out their contignecy plans.
What is the Number One Overall Pick?
There is always a clamour for the most hyped player of the draft and NFL experts usually have a decent idea of the players who are likely to be high on the wanted list. Number One Overall Picks are often determined by which team gets the opening pick and which positions that they are required to strengthen. Offensive players tend to be prioritised in the NFL Draft.
Previous Number One Picks?
The Chicago Bears were granted first overall pick in 2024 following a miserable campaign and they selected USC QB Caleb Williams.
Bryce Young was the 2023 pick having been acquired by the Carolina Panthers. The 2021 Heisman Trophy winner is a QB which is the most popular position for players who are picked first at the NFL Draft.
Other recent picks include Trevor Lawrence and Travon Walker, both of whom were snapped up by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Baker Mayfield was picked up by the Cleveland Browns and Myles Garrett, who was a regular in the Pro Bowl, was picked by the Cleveland Browns back in 2017.
Kyler Murray, who was awarded Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2019, was first overall pick the previous summer and enjoyed a memorable first season in Arizona.
Who is Likely to be First Overall Pick in 2025?
Although the current NFL season is far from finished, the Jacksonville Jaguars appear to be in pole position for first pick in 2025. The Floridian franchise have already chalked up nine losses and are likely to be the worst-performing side of the season.
If the Jaguars are granted first overall pick, they are unlikely to require a new QB with Trevor Lawrence having signed a lucrative contract. Travis Hunter, a receiver and corner back who is currently with the Colorado Buffaloes, could be a viable option. He is current favourite for the Heisman Trophy following his outstanding performances so far this season.
Cameron Ward is third favourite in the betting and could be a decent option for the struggling New York Giants. With Daniel Jones likely to be downgraded, they may require a new QB ahead of the 2025 season. The Miami man is an impressive playmaker who could help the struggling franchise cut out the mistakes which have held them back in 2024.
Shandeur Sanders is likely to be high on the shopping list of many NFL teams with the Tennessee Titans possibly still searching for a new QB. His strong showings this season have put him firmly in the shop window and is another worthy contender for the Heisman Trophy this time around.
If you believe that Travis Hunter will be the First Overall Pick in the 2025 Draft, you could win €433 by betting €100 at 1xBet if it happens.
