- Cody Johnson
Who is Most Likely to Win the Award?
Regular viewers of the CMAs are unlikely surprised to read that Chris Stapleton is the current favorite to win Male Artist of the Year at the event this year.
He has won the award seven times during his career, and a win in 2024 will be the second time the 46-year-old singer-songwriter has won the title in four consecutive years.
For instance, he won the award four years in a row from 2015 to 2018 before Luke Combs interrupted his winning streak for two years. He has since picked up the award from 2021 to 2023.
Cody Johnson will be hoping that third time’s the charm in the category, as 2024 marks his third consecutive nomination for Male Artist of the Year, but he is yet to win the accolade.
If Stapleton doesn’t take home the award, there is a good chance Johnson will do so instead.
The 37-year-old has had a great year in country music, as his hit song “The Painter” topped many country charts across the world, including US Country Airplay (Billboard) and UK Country Airplay.
Also, his third studio album, Leather, was critically acclaimed and reached number five on the US Top Country Albums (Billboard).
If the award isn’t handed to Chris Stapleton or Cody Johnson, it might go to Luke Combs.
The 34-year-old last won Male Artist of the Year in 2020, and his brand-new album Fathers & Sons could help him scoop the award right out of Chris Stapleton’s hands.
The album was praised by many music critics worldwide, with one calling it “personal and authentic.”
Also, it enjoyed much international success, reaching number one on the UK Country Album Chart, number two on the US Top Country Albums (Billboard), number three on Australian Albums (ARIA), and number six on the US Billboard 200, to name a few.
Morgan Wallen and Jelly Roll could be called onto the stage to accept the award, but they face tough competition from the above nominees. After all, Chris Stapleton has proven a favorite at the award show in recent years, making him hard to beat in the category.
