Who Are the Nominees for Musician of the Year?

The following five phenomenal acts have each received a nomination for Musician of the Year:

  • Paul Franklin
  • Tom Bukovac
  • Jenee Fleenor
  • Rob McNelley
  • Charlie Worsham

Who is Most Likely to Win the Award?

Rob McNelley might have lost out on the award in 2023, but he is the current favorite to receive the title of Musician of the Year at the 2024 CMAs.

The talented electric guitarist is no stranger to award shows, as he has won the Academy of Country Music Guitar Player of the Year award three times.

The chances are you have heard one of his riffs, as he has recorded songs with many top country artists in recent years, such as Luke Bryan, Luke Combs, Kenny Chesney, Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood, Tyler Hubbard, and more.

However, the odds are close between Rob McNelley and Jenee Fleenor. The experienced fiddle player made CMA history in 2019, as she was the first woman to be nominated and win the Musician of the Year Award. Also, she was the first fiddle player to earn the title in more than 20 years.

Since 2019, she has won Musician of the Year an additional four consecutive times and has a good shot of adding to this number in 2024.

If you have ever heard a fiddle in your favorite country song, the chances are it was played by Fleenor. She has worked with countless artists, including Blake Shelton, Martina McBride, Cody Johnson, Jon Pardi, Rascal Flatts, Terri Clark, and Steven Tyler.

It would be foolish to rule out Charlie Worsham, as he is currently a touring member of Dierks Bentley’s band.

When he is not recording his own songs in the studio, Worsham works with other top artists, such as Keith Urban, Luke Combs, Kacey Musgraves, and Eric Church, to name a few.

Less likely to walk away with Musician of the Year are Paul Franklin and Tom Bukovac. However, both have impressive resumes that could result in them receiving the prestigious award.

For instance, the multi-talented Paul Franklin is best known for playing the steel guitar, and he has toured with many top artists and bands throughout his career, such as Willie Nelson, Vince Gill, Jerry Reed, Faith Hill, Shania Twain, and many more.

As he has had an active role in country music for 50 years, he is the most nominated person in the award show’s history, as he has been nominated for Musician of the Year an incredible 29 times but has never won. You never know; 2024 might be his year.
