What to Expect from the UK Remake

Big Talk Studios has pitched a British remake of Cheers. The film and TV production company, acquired by ITV Studios in 2013, is behind some of the UK’s biggest films and TV shows, such as Shaun of the Dead, Grimsby, Spaced, Baby Driver, and Friday Night Dinner.

If the sitcom receives the green light, English screenwriter Simon Nye will reportedly join as showrunner. He is best known for writing the sitcom Men Behaving Badly, the 2006 movie Flushed Away, and the comedy-drama The Durrells.

While the show will take inspiration from Cheers, there will be some huge differences from the original. For instance, the British remake will replace the iconic Boston bar with a British pub.

Also, the comedy will reflect today’s audiences and views, putting a fresh spin on the much-loved characters.

Who Might Appear in the British Remake of Cheers?

Big Talk Studios likely would jump at the chance for original cast members to walk into the pub in the British remake of Cheers, as it could boost the show’s ratings and credibility.

Bebe Neuwirth, who played Lilith Stemin in the original sitcom, is the current favorite to order a drink in the pub.

The talented actress often reprised her role in the hit 90s sitcom Frasier, a spin-off of Cheers, and her deadpan character would likely add an extra layer of comedy to the show.

Also, she returned to the 2023 revival of Frasier, proving she’s more than happy to slip back into her iconic character if the script is right.

George Wendt, who played Norm Peterson, could be a smart choice for a cameo. His character often never left the bar and would likely get on well with British punters in the pub.

Plus, he’s slipped back into the role on several occasions since Cheers came to an end, lending his voice as Norm in The Simpsons in 1994, popping up in Frasier in 2002, and appearing as Norm in two episodes of Family Guy from 2007 to 2009.

As no episode of Cheers would feel complete without mailman Cliff Clavin walking through the door, the remake would likely welcome a cameo appearance from John Ratzenberger.

While modern audiences might recognize his voice from various animated movies, such as Toy Story, Cars, and Inside Out, fans of the 80s sitcom will remember his know-it-all attitude and outlandish tales, which would provide plenty of laughs in the British remake.

If you believe Ted Danson (Sam Malone) will make a cameo appearance in the UK Cheers remake, you could win $900 by betting $100 at 1xBet if it happens.
