- Jonathan Pryce – The Crown

- Jon Hamm – The Morning Show
- Takehiro Hira – Shōgun
Who is Most Likely to Win the Award?
The Morning Show’s Billy Crudup is the favorite to win Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.
He has proven popular with TV Academy members, as he walked away with the award for his role as Cory Ellison in the AppleTV+ series in 2020. It was a shock to many at the time, as he went up against Succession’s Kieran Culkin, Nicholas Braun, and Matthew Macfadyen during the show’s height.
There is no question Crudup steals every scene he is in, as the charming yet flawed Cory never fails to deliver memorable lines that help him outshine the show’s talented leads.
If Crudup isn’t called to the stage, it’s quite possible Shōgun’s Tadanobu Asano will be. TV Academy members have proven they are Shōgun fans, as the show has earned 25 nominations in 2024.
Also, Asano’s performance could secure him the award, as he stood out on TV screens as Yabushige, a waffling yet entertaining warlord, offering a splash of humor in a series filled with gripping drama.
Jon Hamm could take the award away from the other nominees as he injected more energy and new stories into season three of The Morning Show. However, his role as an Elon Musk-esque character might not be enough to compete with Crudup’s likable character.
There is no question that acting royalty Sir Jonathan Pryce is worthy of the award, too, slipping into every character he plays like a glove. After delivering a superb performance as Prince Philip in the final season of The Crown, it wouldn’t be a shock to see him standing on the stage.
Yet, the Laurence Olivier Award-winning actor faces soōme tough competition in the category, meaning he isn’t a shoo-in to add the award to his large trophy cabinet.
Takehiro Hira deserved a nomination in the category, but his Shōgun performance cannot compare to Asano, who is a more obvious choice for the award.
Jack Lowden impressed as River Cartright in Slow Horses. However, if Gary Oldman isn’t a frontrunner in the Outstanding Lead Actor category, it’s less likely he’ll be lifting the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor this September.
