Could Bill Murray Return as Host?

Bill Murray is an SNL icon, as he joined the hit NBC show during its second season in 1977 after Chevy Chase bowed out.

He is one of few stars who can claim he has hosted SNL five times, and his time on Saturday Night Live helped set its template before he waved goodbye to pursue a successful movie career.

The 73-year-old actor might not have hosted the show since 1999, but he is the current favorite to do so in the 50th Anniversary Special in 2025.

He didn’t hesitate to appear at its 40th-Anniversary Special in 2015 as Nick the Lounge Singer in a music melody.

However, his lengthy absence from hosting duties might indicate he is not eager to slip back into the role.

Would Steve Martin Host the 50th Anniversary Special?

Contrary to popular belief, Steve Martin was never a Saturday Night Live cast member. As he has appeared on the show 35 times and counting, it is understandable to assume he was part of the ensemble.

Also, he has hosted SNL an incredible 16 times, three shows less than the record set at 19 by Alec Baldwin; however, he could get closer to breaking it by hosting the 50th Anniversary Special.

His last appearance as host was in 2022, and he was joined by fellow Only Murders in the Building cast member Martin Short, who served as co-host.

As Steve Martin was happy to take the reins only two years ago, he might jump at the chance to do so in the upcoming special.

Might Tina Fey Step Back into the Hosting Role?

Tina Fey, a former Saturday Night Live head writer and cast member, is part of the five-timer club, having hosted the show six times.

The American actress, writer, and comedian was fundamental to the show’s behind-the-scenes and on-screen success from 1997 to 2006 and became its first female head writer.

She is responsible for some of SNL’s most iconic characters, including Sarah Palin, The Bush Twins, and The Lady with No Theme Song.

Lorne Michael wouldn’t hesitate to trust Tina Fey to host the iconic special, and word on the street is that she might replace him as SNL’s showrunner after its 50th season.

As it Is the 50th Anniversary Special, Michaels may prefer older alumni to front the show, as they could represent the many decades Saturday Night Live has been on the air.

Who Else Could Host?

While the above three SNL stars are the favorites to host the SNL 50th Anniversary Special, other past cast members, guest stars, and former hosts might do so.

For instance, five-timers Will Ferrell, Tom Hanks, Alec Baldwin, Paul Rudd, Melissa McCarthy, and John Mulaney would be superb picks to host.

Alternatively, Lorne Michael might pick a popular guest star to front the anniversary special, such as Ryan Gosling, Adam Driver, or Emma Stone.

If you believe Adam Driver will host the Saturday Night Live 50th Anniversary Special, you could win $2100 by betting $100 at 1xBet if it happens.
