Who is Likely to Win the Nobel Peace Prize in 2024?
Since 1901, the Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to a person or an organization for their outstanding contributions to peace, which may include international cooperation, arms reduction, or human rights contributions to peace.
It is one of five Nobel Prizes presented annually, including the prizes for Literature, Physics, Chemistry, and Physiology or Medicine.
Each year, an individual or organization will receive the prestigious prize if they have “done the most or best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies, or the holding and promotion of peace congresses.”
The Nobel Prize Committee recently confirmed it has registered 196 individuals and 89 organizations for the awards, and some entries are connected to peace activism in Ukraine and Gaza.
While the committee doesn’t publicize the nominees, those nominated can make their nominations public to boost their publicity.

Who is Most Likely to Win?
Alexei Navalny, a late Russian activist, is the current favorite to win the Nobel Peace Prize in 2024.
The anti-corruption campaigner achieved worldwide recognition for his opposition against President Vladimir Putin and investigations into Russia’s senior officials and state corporations.
He participated in the Russian presidential election in 2018 and opened 81 regional headquarters across the nation, with 41 remaining in operation.
However, it is widely believed that Russian operatives poisoned him with a Novichok nerve agent in 2020, and he was later imprisoned for nine years on charges of contempt of court and fraud.
Yet, Navalny never gave up his fight, embarking on a three-week hunger strike, working with his team to regularly update his social media accounts, relaunching the Anti-Corruption Foundation, and attempting to form a labor union while in prison.
As a result, he was placed in solitary confinement by officials for disciplinary violations, such as failing to wash his face at a specific time, and he faced new extremism and terrorism charges to potentially imprison him for life.
Tragically, after a long, persistent fight, the Federal Penitentiary Service announced Navalny died in prison of “natural causes” at the age of 47 on February 16, 2024. However, it is widely believed the Kremlin is responsible for his death.
Another possible candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize 2024 is Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
He has been a favorite to win the prestigious prize since the start of the Russia-Ukraine war.
In addition to expertly rallying citizens, he fought back against Putin’s army while attempting to establish peace and harmony between the nations, even inviting Russia to the next Peace Summit.
Zelenskyy recently said, “Our leadership and the will of the Ukrainians must succeed – for the sake of peace, for the sake of Europe, for the sake of life.”
Greta Thunberg is tipped to win this year’s prize, too. The 21-year-old activist is the founder of the Youth Strike for Climate movement and has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize every year from 2019 to 2023.
Passionate about raising global public awareness of climate change, Thunberg has participated in various environmental protests across the world, causing her to be arrested approximately nine times.
Other possible nominees for the Nobel Peace Prize include Sir David Attenborough for his efforts to save the planet, and Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, a political activist, who continues to fight for freedom in Belarus.
