MTV VMAs 2024: Can Taylor Swift and Post Malone’s “Fortnight” Win Best Direction?

The MTV Video Music Awards are back with another star-stunning night honoring the past year’s biggest and best music videos. Are Taylor Swift and Post Malone set to dominate the night with their hugely successful collab, Fortnight?

Will Taylor Swift Make VMAs History Again?

This year’s VMA nominations have been revealed and Taylor Swift has snagged an impressive ten award nods, including in the prestigious Video of the Year category for her Fortnight collaboration with Post Malone. She’s won this top prize the past two years in a row, so if she takes it home again in 2024, she’ll make history as the first artist to score a hat-trick in this category. She’d also become the artist with the most wins ever in this category, with five total. Can Swift’s Fortnight vid clinch her another victory and cement her status as the VMAs video of the year queen?

Betting sites have Taylor Swift and Post Malone as hot favorites to win! Over at 22bet.com, there are odds of 1.4/1 and a massive percentage chance of 71.40% they’ll scoop the prize and dominate the night.

How Did Post Malone Do in the Nominations?

While Swift led the pack, her Fortnight collaborator Post Malone wasn’t far behind with nine total nominations this year. Eight of those nods came directly from the hit Swift collab, including Video of the Year. He picked up a ninth nomination for his country tune I Had Some Help with Morgan Wallen. It’s clear Post Malone’s genre-bending collabs with major pop and country stars are paying off in awards show recognition. But will Fortnight be enough to finally earn him his first ever VMA?

What Other Artists Are Up for Major Awards?

Beyond Swift and Post Malone, Ariana Grande and Sabrina Carpenter also made a strong showing with six nominations each. Carpenter even recently toured with Swift on her Eras tour dates. Eminem is also back in a big way this year with six nods, proving his comeback has earned him awards show love. Megan Thee Stallion and SZA scored five nominations apiece, showcasing their continued critical success. Other artists earning multiple major nominations included LISA, Olivia Rodrigo and Teddy Swims.

Can a Taylor-Postie Collab Sweep the Major Categories?

In addition to Video of the Year, Swift and Post Malone’s Fortnight is up for several other major awards, including Song of the Year, Best Collaboration, Best Pop and Best Direction. If the duo’s chart-topping team-up track manages to win any or all of these key categories, it would establish Fortnight as one of the most critically acclaimed and award-winning collabs of all time.

The best direction nod seems especially attainable given Swift herself directed the cinematic music video filled with stunning visuals and celebrity cameos. A win there would recognize Swift’s directing skills and creativity behind the scenes. But Fortnight faces stiff competition in each category, so a sweep is far from guaranteed.

It’s shaping up to be an unpredictable, highly competitive night. But if Fortnight emerges victorious, it will solidify 2024 as the year Taylor Swift and Post Malone dominated the VMAs.
