Will Taylor Swift Win Artist of the Year?
Taylor Swift will go up against five phenomenal acts in the Artist of the Year category, including Eminem, Bad Bunny, and SZA.
However, many believe it will be a three-way race between Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, and Sabrina Carpenter.
At present, Swift is the favorite to win Artist of the Year, as she’s had a superb year with her record-breaking studio album The Tortured Poets Department and her popular Eras tour.
However, MTV might want to shake up the ceremony, and Sabrina Carpenter might walk away with the award. As voting took place once her albums Short ‘n’ Sweet dropped, it wouldn’t be surprising if she is lifting the Moon Man this year.
Ariana Grande has had a superb year, too, but she may experience more success in other categories, such as Video of the Year for “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love).”
Could Taylor Swift Receive Song of the Year?
It is hardly a surprise that Taylor Swift’s track “Fortnight” featuring Post Malone has earned a VMA nomination for Song of the Year.
After all, she has won the award four times, and it obliterated records for Spotify’s highest single-day streams.
Despite the song’s success, Sabrina Carpenter has been tipped to pick up the award for her single “Espresso” this September.
It was Carpenter’s first song to reach number one on the Billboard Global 200, and it has received more than one billion streams on Spotify since early August 2024.
However, there is no guarantee Song of the Year will go to Swift or Carpenter, as other fantastic tracks and artists have earned a nomination.
For instance, Beyonce’s Texas Hold ‘Em was critically acclaimed for Beyonce’s vocals and celebrating country music’s black roots.
As the song triggered conversations about the place of Black musicians in country music and inspired music lovers to listen to more black country artists, Texas Hold ‘Em is a worthy choice for Song of the Year.
Of course, Kendrick Lamar’s diss track about Drake could earn the award. There is no doubt his feud with the Canadian rapper has generated much attention and streams, which could result in Lamar being called onto the stage for Song of the Year.
Less likely to win is Teddy Swim’s “Lose Control,” as it had a 32-week climb to the number one spot, proving the singer-songwriter might not have as many fans as the above artists.
Also, despite Jack Harlow’s “Lovin’ On Me” reaching number two on the Billboard Hot 100, the song has failed to generate the same hype as other nominees in the category.
