Is Simone Biles Planning to Retire?
Recently, a Facebook post that appeared to be from Fox News stated Simone Biles is expecting a baby with her NFL-star husband, Jonathan Owens.
The social media post stated, “The joyous revelation marks a new chapter in her life as she steps away from competitive gymnastics to focus on her growing family.”
Unsurprisingly, the Facebook post was shared thousands of times online; however, it appears the claims are unfounded.
A spokesperson for Fox News confirmed it has never reported on Simone Biles’ pregnancy or retirement, despite the Facebook post’s claims.
Also, Biles and her husband haven’t announced they are expecting a baby or that she is planning to retire.
Will Simone Biles Compete in the 2028 Olympics?
Competitive gymnastics is often perceived as a young person’s sport, as many choose to retire in their early to mid-twenties due to the intensity of training, lack of social life, and the mental demands of the sport.
However, the average age of the best gymnasts has increased in recent years, and many of its biggest stars have chosen to extend their successful careers, and Simone Biles might be no exception.
A few minutes after winning a gold medal in the vault at the 2024 Paris Olympics, the 27-year-old was asked if the event was the final time she would compete in the competition, and she didn’t rule out returning to the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
The decorated gymnast replied, “Never say never. The next Olympics are at home, so you just never know. I am getting really old.”
Despite her claims of growing older, Biles proved age is just a number, winning three gold medals within five days at the Olympics.
As she will be 31 years old in 2028, some people believe she might be too old to compete. However, Maria Gorokhovskaya proved it’s possible to win a gold medal in your thirties, as she did so for the Soviet Union at the age of 30 in 1952.
Also, Agnes Keleti, a Hungarian gymnast, won individual gold medals at 35 years old, which could serve as an inspiration to Simone Biles.
