Who is Likely to Host the 2025 Oscars?
Kevin Hart is the name on many people’s lips as the next Academy Awards host. The stand-up comedian was originally set to host the Oscars in 2018, but he stepped down when forced to apologize for homophobic tweets and jokes he made earlier in his career.
The actor tweeted, “I have made the choice to step down from hosting this year’s Oscars. This is because I do not want to be a distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many amazing, talented artists. I sincerely apologize to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past.”
As the controversy has since died down, Hart could be a natural choice for the role of host at the 2025 Academy Awards.
However, Hart might have since had a change of heart about hosting, as he said in January 2024, “Whatever little hope you had, I want to destroy it right now. Those gigs aren’t good for comics. It’s no shot to the Oscars, no shot to the Globes, or anything else.”
Amy Schumer is another comic who has been tipped to take on the role of host. The talented comedy actress doesn’t shy away from the spotlight and can handle public scrutiny.
As she isn’t afraid to push boundaries, she’ll likely be a funny and entertaining host on the night.
Of course, Jon Stewart might be open to returning to the event, as he hosted the show in 2006 and 2008. The former Daily Show host was a big hit with audiences, confidently delivering funny jokes throughout the ceremony.
Also, the Presidential Election in November will provide Stewart with plenty to joke about during the Oscars, as he never shies away from making a political joke, especially if it’s at Trump’s expense.
Of course, other names are starting to circulate about the hosting gig, such as Dave Chapelle, Steve Martin, Ricky Gervais, and Bill Burr.
Could Jimmy Kimmel Return as Host?
Despite ruling himself out as host, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Jimmy Kimmel is announced as the Academy Awards 2025 host this November or December.
However, it appears the gig might be too consuming for Kimmel right now, as he recently commented, “When I’m focused on the Oscars, I’m less focused on the show. I just decided I didn’t want to deal with that this year. It was just too much last year.”
