Who Could Be the Next 007 Villain?
Every 007 movie needs a villain to keep Bond busy. However, stepping into the shoes of a bad guy isn’t an easy feat for an actor, as they’ll need to offer a phenomenal performance to rival Christoph Waltz’s Blofeld (Spectre), Javier Bardem’s Silva (Skyfall), and Rami Malek’s Safin (No Time to Die).
For this reason, it will need an actor with the talent and credentials to turn a villainous character into a movie icon.
It currently isn’t known who will take on the role, but some actors are strong contenders for the Bond 26 villain.
For example, rumors emerged that Cillian Murphy has lost out on the role of Bond to Aaron Taylor-Johnson, despite being earmarked by Pierce Brosnan.
The Peaky Blinders star believes he wouldn’t be a right fit for the lead, stating, “I think I’m a bit too old for that.” However, he wouldn’t be too old to play the movie villain.
Also, Paul Giamatti has expressed an interest in playing a Bond villain, stating he’d be happy to take a crack at it if the opportunity arose.
David Dastmalchian has also thrown his hat into the ring, as the Ant-Man actor is reportedly eager to earn the villain role in the next 007 instalment.
During an interview with Slash Film, Dastmalchian said, “It begins right now. So, whoever is reading this, take it as a sign. You were meant to be reading this line at this moment as you’re thinking about the future of what you guys are doing with the franchise.
“Trust me when I say that I can bring something to an enemy of 007, whether he or she or they be played in a way that no one has ever seen Bond brought to life before, which is, of course, the way that you guys always do it. I think there’s no one to push Bond to the limits of their capabilities the way that I could. I would love to do it. There’s my pitch to them. I can’t wait for them to read this.”
However, it is rumored that Bond 26 will take a new direction by casting a female villain, and Helena Bonham Carter, Emma Stone, and Zendaya have been tipped for the role.
