Brad Pitt vs. Angelina Jolie: Who Will Win Chateau Miraval?

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s relationship has dominated the headlines since the couple first met on the set of Mr. and Mrs. Smith (2005).

Playing husband and wife, the talented actors fell in love during filming while Brad Pitt was married to Friends star Jennifer Aniston, and Jolie was a single mother to her son, Maddox.

Pitt and Aniston divorced the same year and he married Jolie in 2014. However, the marriage failed to stand the test of time, with Angelina filing for divorce in 2016, citing irreconcilable differences.

Surprisingly, Pitt has remained on friendly terms with his ex-wife, Jennifer, but the same cannot be said for his relationship with Angelina and their six children.

In addition to claims of domestic violence on a plane in 2016, the Oscar winners are embroiled in a legal battle over Chateau Miraval, a stunning winery in the South of France.

The couple bought the wine company in a 50/50 partnership with Marc Perrin, a professional winemaker, in 2008, which the exes have been fighting over in court.

Why are Pitt and Jolie Fighting for Chateau Miraval?

Despite being co-owners of Chateau Miraval, Angelina Jolie reportedly sold the French winery in October 2021 for $67 million to Russian billionaire Yuri Shefler without Brad Pitt’s consent.

Angered by the decision and eager to secure his share of the sale, Brad Pitt sued his ex-wife in 2022 for breach of contract.

Pitt seemingly has a strong case against the Girl, Interrupted actress, as he has enjoyed three legal wins against Jolie and Shefler in a matter of weeks.

As the legal battle will impact their children, Jolie has requested Pitt drop the lawsuit to help their family heal.

However, the Seven star refuses to back down, with sources stating Jolie is asking him to stop the fight because she knows Pitt has a strong case.

According to reports, Pitt has spent an incredible $10 million on legal fees, which he believes isn’t wasted, as he is adamant to stand up to bullies and defend the truth and his principles.

Also, sources have claimed he believes Jolie sold the French winery out of spite weeks after being awarded joint custody of their children, which Jolie denies.

The Chateau Miraval Legal Battle

The Hollywood A-listers may have bought Chateau Miraval together in 2008, but it was Pitt who reportedly had a lead role in the award-winning sparking rose wine business.

According to the Fight Club actor, he and Jolie agreed that each would have first refusal to buy the other out of the vineyard when they decided to divorce.

As a result, Pitt was shocked to discover Jolie had sold Chateau Miraval without his consent and learned about the sale via a press release.

Also, he claims Yuri Shefler has tried to bully and threaten him and has become angered by Jolie and the Russian businessman announcing their new partnership.

Pitt continues to prove he won’t back down, and the law could be on his side, as a Luxembourg court transferred 10% of Shefler’s Miraval shares to Pitt, making the actor a majority shareholder. However, the shares will remain in escrow for a year until the legal battle is over.

Plus, an LA judge permitted Pitt to sue Jolie for breach of contract in March 2024, and she has been ordered to submit all NDAs over eight years to the court, even documents that haven’t been finalized.

However, Brad Pitt faces another legal battle, as he and his business, Mondo Bongo, have been countersued by Tenute del Mondo, the company Jolie sold a share of the winery in 2021.

Tenute claims Pitt spent the French winery funds on personal expenses and diverted money to other business ventures instead of paying dividends or making loan repayments.

As a result, the company is suing Pitt and Mondo Bongo for $20 million in damages.
