Will Tiger Woods or Rory McIlroy make an Appearance in Happy Gilmore 2?

Will Tiger Woods or Rory McIlroy make an Appearance in Happy Gilmore 2?

Earlier this year, it was announced that the long-await sequel to 1996 comedy Happy Gilmore would finally be released in 2025. Despite some criticism from movie critics, the film was a huge commercial success and is still regularly referenced by its fans. It’s been almost 30 years since Adam Sandler portrayed the ambitious amateur golfer who defied the odds to win Tour Championship and fans are delighted and intrigued to see how Happy Gilmore manages to resurrect his career in this soon-to-be-released second installment.

How many Professional Golfers Featured in the Original Movie?

Although many of Happy Gilmore’s rivals were portrayed by actors, the film did feature cameos from a number of professional players.

Back in 1996, it was a very different cast of golfers, however, there may be some names that will sound familiar.

Lee Trevino, who is generally regarded as one of the greatest American golfers of all time, was regularly spotted shaking his head in the direction our hapless hero. The six-time major winners only made fleeting appearances, yet he was iconic enough to be recognised by eagle-eyed golf fans

Mark Lye, who was a full-time member of the PGA Tour between 1977 and 1991 also played himself in the film and although he isn’t technically a professional golfer, veteran broadcaster Verne Lundquist also pops up at regular intervals.

Who is Likely to make an Appearance in Happy Gilmore 2?

The number of professional golfers who starred in the original was limited and this can possibly be blamed on their hectic schedule. Nowadays, the number of air-miles clocked up by professional sportspeople has increased and with players split across the PGA, European, LPGA, PGA Tour Champions and LIV Golf Tour, it may be tricky to persuade current players to take time out of their schedule to lark around on the film set.

Nevertheless, many golfers have professed to enjoying the film with Keegan Bradley claiming to have seen it ‘millions of time’. Jordan Speith has recreated Happy Gilmore shots on YouTube whereas Dustin Johnson asked the question ‘who doesn’t like Happy Gilmore?’.

It appears as though many of these golfers could potentially be happy to make a fleeting appearance in the forthcoming sequel.

Tiger Woods is favourite off the back of Adam Sandler admitting that he ‘would love’ to cast the iconic player in the film. The most famous golfer of his generation, getting Woods to star in Happy Gilmore 2 would be quite the coup. John Daly is also reportedly being lined up for a role.

Scottie Scheffler is the man of the moment and would be a surefire way to get the attention of the media. Gilmore’s style has drawn comparisons to Will Zalatoris and that could open the door for the 27-year old to make an appearance.

Tiger Woods is the current favourite, however, with both Dustin Johnson and Jordan Speith having both professed their love for the 1996 hit, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see either of them pop up at some stage during the much-anticipated follow-up

If you believe that Jordan Speith will make an appearance in Happy Gilmore 2, you could win €300 by betting €100 at 22Bet if it happens.
