Which Australian Sports Stars could take part in I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here 2025?

I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! is a hit reality TV series which began in the UK and has subsequently spawned variants all around the world. The Australian version airs on Network 10 and is set in South Africa’s Kruger National Park. It is hosted by Julia Morris and Robert Irwin and in 2024, it celebrated its tenth anniversary.

How does it Work?

The premise is based on the UK version with a group of well-known figures being forced to live together in a remote location. Kruger National Park has been the chosen destination for the majority of the first ten series, although, throughout the COVID-affected years, they were unable to travel and the show was moved to Dungay in New South Wales.

The celebrities are competing to win the $100,000 prize money with the majority of the ensemble being asked to compete in a series of unpleasant or tricky tasks in a bid to win food and treats for the rest of their campmates. Celebrities are completely cut off from the outside world and have no access to technology.

Throughout the show, celebrities are routinely voted out of the jungle by the general public and although contestants can voluntarily exit this scenario by shouting ‘I’m a Celebrity, Get me Out of Here!’, this will result in them forfeiting any of their winnings.

Additional contestants will enter the jungle mid-way through the show in a bid to try and disrupt the harmony or stir things up. Regular features of the show include the Bushtucker Trials, which push contestants out of the their comfort zones, Superhero Sundays, Celebrity Chest Challenges and Secret Missions.

The eventual winner will be crowned King or Queen of the Jungle.

Which Sports Stars appeared in the show in 2024?

As always, the line-up for the show was extremely varied and included reality TV ‘love rats’, comedians, celebrity chefs and influencers. There were a number of sportspeople who entered the jungle including professional Ironwoman Candice Warner, who also happens to be married to Australian cricket David Warner.

Gold medallist Ellie Cole was a surprise addition to the camp and as Australia’s most decorated paralympian, she was a popular choice.

AFL hall-of-famer Peter Daicos was the other notable name from the world of sport. He scored 549 goals across his 15-year career and was a familiar to face to football fans.

Previous contestants include Serie 1 winner Andrew ‘Freddie’ Flintoff, Shane Warne, AFL star Dane Swan, boxer Danny Green and former AFL star Travis Varcoe.

Who Could Feature in 2025?

Swimmer Ian Thorpe was the name on the lips of I’m a Celebrity fans ahead of the 2024 series, however, the five-time gold medallist failed to appear on the latest series of the hit TV show. His name continued to be linked. The 41-year old, who has retired from the sport, is amongst the favourites to head to the jungle in 2025.

Soccer player Lydia Williams has been strongly linked with the show and with the Melbourne Victory goalkeeper having retired from international duty, she is likely to have a little more time on her hands.

Wheelchair tennis player Dylan Alcott has also been mentioned as potential contestant in next year’s show. As a radio host and motivational speaker, he would be very comfortable in front of the TV cameras.

One of the relative outsiders in the betting market is Ashley Barty. The 28-year old former tennis player opted to take early retirement from the sport citing a loss of motivation. Having given birth to her first child in April 2023, she was always unlikely to feature this time around, but with her son growing up, she may decide that 2025 is the right time to enter the jungle.

If you believe that Ashley Barty will take part in I’m a Celebrity Australia in 2025, you could win $275 by betting $100 at 22Bet if it happens.
