What will be Jurgen Klopp’s Next Job?

What will be Jurgen Klopp’s Next Job?

In January 2024, Jurgen Klopp shocked the football world by announcing that he was set to leave Liverpool at the end of the 2023-24 campaign. The charismatic German has been in charge of the Reds since October 2015 and was part of the Premier League furniture.

Amid his departure, there was plenty of discussion surrounding his successor and speculation also mounted about the outgoing manager’s next destination.

Citing a loss of energy and needing time to recharge his batteries, Klopp told the press that he wanted to take some time away from the sport. However, successful coaches are rarely able to take a step back and pursue other interests, hence why many analysts were quick to suggest that the former Dortmund coach was unlikely to stay away for long.

What did Klopp Achieve at Liverpool?

Following a period of stagnation, Klopp helped to revitalise the club and help to raise the morale of both the players and the supporters.

He guided the club to success in the UEFA Champions League, and guided them to the final on a couple of occasions too. They also wrapped up a long-awaited Premier League title and were successful in the FA Cup, League Cup, UEFA Super Cup and at the FIFA Club World Cup.

The title winning season of 2019-20 was particularly memorable with the Reds coming within a point of breaking the 100-point barrier. Twice, the club accumulated 90+ points despite having to settle for second place behind Manchester City.

His high-intensity style has been a hit with supporters and neutrals have also enjoyed watching the likes of Mo Salah and Andy Robertson thrive under his guidance.

What Next for Klopp?

Klopp has been linked with a variety of vacant posts and is likely to be mentioned whenever we see a high-profile managerial casualty over the next twelve months. He was linked with the USMNT vacancy, although he swiftly rejected their initial approach.

Many believe that his intense style would be ideally suited to the international game and he has understandably been linked to German National Team. Although Julian Nagelsmann is currently occupying that role and has recently extended his contract until the 2026 World Cup, Klopp would be a very popular choice if he was to be given the role.

Barcelona is another potential destination for the German coach and his style of play would certainly fit the club’s ethos. His willingness to work with younger players and promote them from the youth team would also curry favour with the hierarchy. However, club legend Xavi has recenty signed a new contract which will take him until June 2025 and the club may not be able to afford to sack him anytime soon.

Gareth Southgate’s successor is yet to be announced and Jurgen Klopp has been linked with the England job throughout the summer. Managing the Three Lions is a tough gig, yet Klopp would be familiar with many members of the squad including Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez.

A return to Dortmund is another possibility whereas Bayern’s continued managerial merry-go-round may mean that a vacancy at the Allianz is only a matter of months away.

Finally, Real Madrid is another option for the out-of-work coach. Despite being heavily touted for the Brazil National Team role, Carlo Ancellotti remains in charge of Los Blancos and his contract has been signed until 2026.
