What’s Likely to Happen at Lizzo’s Sexual Harassment Court Case?
It took Lizzo time to achieve global success. It wasn’t until the American singer’s third album, Cuz I Love You (2019), that she became an international star, as it reached number four on the US Billboard 200 chart.
The songs “Juice” and “Tempo” helped the album become a hit and even resulted in her past songs climbing the charts, with her 2016 track “Good as Hell” entering the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100.
Following the album’s success, Lizzo won three of her eight nominations at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards, and her fourth album, Special (2022), peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned her the Grammy Award for Record of the Year.
However, her hard-earned success was soon interrupted when four former employees filed a lawsuit against the 36-year-old, with claims of sexual harassment, bullying, and creating a hostile work environment.

Who Accused Lizzo of Sexual Harassment?
Lizzo faces filed lawsuits from four former employees, who have accused the singer of encouraging misconduct and causing a hostile work environment on the 2022 Special Tour.
Three of the singer’s backup dancers filed the first lawsuit in 2023, naming Lizzo, her production company, and Shirlene Quigley, the tour’s dance captain.
According to the professional dancers, Lizzo and Shirlene sexually harassed them during the tour.
Lizzo was also accused of assault and disability harassment, while Shirlene was accused of religious harassment.
For example, Arriana Davis, one of the dancers in the suit, claimed Lizzo, who champions body positivity, shamed her about gaining weight during the tour, which the singer was reportedly aware was due to the dancer experiencing depression and anxiety.
Also, it was alleged that Lizzo coerced the dancers into attending a club in Amsterdam’s Red-Light District before pressuring them to touch various nude performers.
Asha Daniels, a stylish, later filed a separate lawsuit for racism, overwork, and sexual harassment on the tour.
What was Lizzo’s Response to the Lawsuits?
Lizzo has denied all the allegations from the lawsuit, and posted the following statement on her Instagram account: “Usually I choose not to respond to false allegations, but these are as unbelievable as they sound and too outrageous to not be addressed. These sensationalized stories are coming from former employees who have already publicly admitted they were told their behavior on tour was inappropriate and unprofessional.”
The singer also stated that she holds all her team to high standards and that she’s “not the villain people and the media have portrayed me to be these last few days.”
Since the lawsuits, Lizzo’s legal team has attempted to have the case brought by her former dancers dismissed, but the request was denied by the judge, who stated the lawsuit would proceed.
Do Other Employees Support the Former Employees?
Sophia Nahli Allison, a filmmaker, has released a statement expressing her support for Lizzo’s three former dancers.
The director reportedly dropped out of filming Lizzo’s documentary in 2019, as she claims, “I was treated with such disrespect by her,” and “I witnessed how arrogant, self-centred, and unkind she is… Reading these reports made me realize how dangerous of a situation it was.”
Quinn Wilson, Lizzo’s former creative director, publicly showed support for the dancers, too, writing on Instagram, “I very much applaud the dancers’ courage to bring this to light. I grieve parts of my own experience. I’d appreciate space to understand my feelings.”
Another former dancer, Courtney Hollinquest, stated on the social media platform, “I’m not part of the lawsuit, but this was very much my experience in my time there.”

Many celebrities and employees have come to Lizzo’s defense following the lawsuits. For instance, Beyonce shouted, “I love you, Lizzo” during her Renaissance Tour stop in Atlanta.
Other celebrities who have publicly expressed their support for the singer include Grimes, Jameela Jamil, Selma Blair, and Kristin Chenoweth.
Also, Lizzo’s group of background dancers, nicknaming themselves “the Big Grrrls and Big Boiiis,” posted the following statement, “We’ve had the time of our lives on The Special Tour… The tour experience was beyond special… Thank you to Lizzo for shattering limitations and kicking in the doorway for the Big Grrrl and Big Boiiis dancers to do what we love!”
